Massive Art Play - Camper of the Week

Massive Art Play camp is all about having FUN & getting messy. This past week at The Studio, we definitely accomplished both of the above with projects like shaving cream paper-making, balloon splatter paint, and human spin art.

We had an amazing group of campers this week, so it was very difficult to choose camper of the week. That being said, ten year-old Kate Richards exemplified the importance of art as an outlet in our lives, and because of that, we decided to feature her! Kate is a rising fifth grader in Fairfield who has "always, always been interested in art. [She] used to draw a lot and make up her own little worlds on pieces of paper". Kate spends a lot of time in the hospital, and she told us that "every time [she] goes to a new place she asks for something artistic to do. Even if [she] has a needle in [her] arm [she] asks for a craft to do".

When asked why she loves art, Kate replied, "It's interesting, and it keeps me busy for a while. When I'm in the hospital for a while, art is my way of dealing with that. Also, it always turns out cool no matter what. In art, even if you make a mistake it always turns out good. There's no wrong or right about art". Kate is absolutely right, and we feel so lucky to have been able to get to know her this week.

In addition to being incredibly mature, Kate is also a very talented and kind-hearted kid. She brought a wonderful energy to The Studio this week, making new friends and gorgeous projects - we can't wait to work with her again soon!
